Frederick Brewing brings Blue Ridge Beer back to city taps
After a 50 year gap Frederick celebrates Blue Ridge Beer with the first bottling run at 1038 Carroll St. The ruby porter marks Frederick’s first commercial brew since 1939. Owners Kevin Brannon and Marjorie McGinnis say they produced 100 cases and plan continued growth despite city permit delays. Tours and tastings to follow on weekends.

Fagan refuses to testify in murder trial
Accused killer William Robert Fagan Sr. declined to testify in his defense as jury deliberations loom into Deborah Patricia Fagan’s death. The 38 year old faces first degree murder charges for shooting his estranged wife twice in the head on January 6 1992. Allan Phillips 37 of Olney is charged with aiding the murder by providing transport and suggesting secluded sites. Phillips arrest followed testimony linking him to a coded warning.

Officer testifies on mower accident near Adamstown
An accident reconstruction officer testified about a lawn mower collision in April near Adamstown in which 11 year old Thomas E. Blank Jr. was killed. Paul Broberg, 26, faces manslaughter by automobile while intoxicated charges. The deputy described Broberg's drunk driving and a 64 mph impact as the case moves to further proceedings Monday.

Jefferson student wins national FFA honor in sheep production
Jefferson teen Robert Dinsmore won the national Future Farmers of America award for sheep production at the 66th National FFA Convention in Kansas City before a crowd of 29,000. The 18 year old from Maryland competed against three other finalists, earning a cash prize and a trip with 28 other winners to Europe. Maryland delegates cheered as the ceremony highlighted national proficiency winners and future leaders.
