Surgery clears clogged arteries to prevent heart attacks
Two men, both suffering heart attacks, underwent a new surgical procedure in which the clogged coronary arteries were scraped clean with a tubular instrument pushed up from below. Doctors say the operation increased blood flow and may prevent future attacks, though results are not yet certain. The work was led by Dr. Charles P. Bailey and Dr. Angelo Mayo in Philadelphia and San Francisco. A separate note reports Italian archaeologists uncovering seven ancient civilizations in Swat, Pakistan, with a museum established at the dig site.
