Scramble Under Way For Senate Leadership
Washington report notes a fast moving effort to fill key Senate leadership posts in both parties during the January session. The vacant roles include the assistant Democratic leader seat once held by Sen. Clements and the Republican conference chair following Sen. Willikin’s decision not to seek another term. Leaders Johnson and Knowland hold cautious views on who will fill the vacancies as party leadership, not seniority, determines the assignments. The GOP also plans for a policy committee chair and conference chair to be filled.
