Judge clears path for AT&T antitrust settlement appeal
A federal judge certified the case for Supreme Court review, allowing direct appeal of the antitrust settlement between the Justice Department and AT&T to the high court. Maryland and several states had challenged parts of the agreement, which requires AT&T to divest 22 Bell System companies and enter unregulated businesses. The judge cited vast reorganization implications and the need for early resolution of major legal issues as reasons to bypass the appeals court.
