Charles County hires Gaddis for Director of Administration with duties expanding to construction maintenance and operations. He leaves Frederick after five and a half years earning 8500 and moving to 11000. Sensenbaugh calls resignations critical amid multiple recent personnel losses.
President Kennedy will hold a news conference at 11 a.m. EST Thursday, announced by the White House. This will be his first morning briefing since March 6. Martin Co. said it will keep all three plants operating despite a strike threat and urged employees to stay on duty.
Johns Hopkins doctor reports a home self sampling method for cervical cancer detection being piloted in Washington County Maryland. Frederick County becomes the fourth U S county to join with 7500 kits mailed this month at a cost of two dollars per person.
Donald Koons vice-principal of West Frederick Junior High School has been named supervisor of the YMCA County Council announced by Merrill E. Groelle executive secretary of the Y. The council includes the president and one representative from each Hi Y or Tri Hi Y club in the county. A meeting is set for Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Mar-Lu Restaurant followed by a 7 30 p.m. gathering at the YMCA with BI Y and Tri Hi Y advisors. The group will discuss attendance at the Mid-Winter Conference in Wilmington Del December 6 7 and 8. Last year 20 girls and eight boys attended with four advisors. the same numbers will be chosen by chartered bus.
About 500 people attended the Chorus of the Chesapeake concert at Frederick High School Saturday night. Henry S. Keller chaired the Grange event with Mrs. Keller and others assisting. The fundraiser introduced barbershop singing to locals and aims to form a Jefferson Grange barbershop quartet.
Three Mt Airy men Joseph Ledford Earl Ledford and James Nix were fined 150 each and given one year suspended sentence for stealing and butchering a Black Angus steer valued at 125. The crime occurred September 28 near Simons farm and led to restitution of 125 to Simons.
