Contested Race For Frederick County Fair Board Seat
A competitive bid for a Board of Managers spot in the Frederick County Agricultural Society is under way. John L. Shaw Jr and Donald G. Schley seek election at the December 14 meeting. Shaw, a Gaithersburg police officer, is son of the late board president and currently serves on the board. Schley, of Myersville, works at Fort Detrick and is a University of Maryland alumnus. The board warned the contest marks a rare election battle for manager posts amid prior noncompetitive years. The society reports a better financial year, though official figures await audit after the December meeting. The current managers include Best Jr., Geisbert, Renn, Hahn, Sanner, Smith, Staley, Stauffer, Trout, Young, and Shaw Jr.

Frederick students compete for state scholarships exams set
Frederick city and county students may take exams on November 23 in the West Frederick Junior High cafeteria for senatorial general tuition and teacher education scholarships. Testing starts 8 30 a m with tests lasting about three hours. Trapped Miners In Japan Mine Disaster Kill At Least Fifty Five
