Welfare costs rise as County aids more families
September county welfare expenditures reached 23 352 with 37 more children aided, while the Aid to Dependent Children grants rose to 8399. Public Assistance to the Needy Blind and the Permanently Disabled increased slightly, and Old Age Assistance fell as Social Security coverage expanded. Federal funds funded most grants, with Frederick County contributing about 20 percent. Nine months showed a similar pattern of cost distribution.
