Income taxes are great levelers across earnings levels
A U.S. News analysis shows tax rates erode raises for all, with a single man earning $10,000 keeping only $3,094 of a $5,000 raise, and married families with two children retaining $3,756. Even a $50,000 raise on a $175,000 salary adds just $4,766 to take home, illustrating how taxes level earnings differences. It argues the tax system cuts deep into winners' gains and highlights the narrow after tax rewards of higher income.
