Dry conditions trigger large Maryland brush fires this week
Maryland faced hundreds of acres burned as dry weather and high winds fueled large fires in Allegany and Harford counties while smaller blazes flared in Charles and Somerset. Aberdeen Proving Ground reported over 600 acres torched, helicopters dumping water as drought persists across the state. National Weather Service notes rainfall below average for two months, with October notably dry, and soil tests show a mild drought. State officials consider open burning bans as Garrett and Allegany counties already enact bans amid Westernport fire.
