WWII Soldier Crum’s Wartime Journey From Walkersville to England

James Ward Crum Sr of Walkersville recalls induction into the Army on May 26, 1942 at Fort Meade. He served in Company F 333rd Special Service Engineers, built depots in Marion Ohio and hospital facilities in Yuma Arizona and Pomona California, married during furlough, then sailed from New York on October 7 1943 with 240 crew aboard a 3000 passenger ship to Liverpool England. From there he trained for the invasion of France and heard a briefing from an African Campaign officer.

FBI profiles loner anthrax killer in public appeal

The FBI released a psychological profile describing the anthrax letters suspect as a solitary, standoffish individual with a scientific background. He may have ignored Sept. 11 during early planning but briefly engaged with media coverage, and could have voiced contempt for victims. The age and exact role in science remain undetermined.

Chuch Moves to Former Xhale Site on South Jefferson

Fl Shaddai congregation plans to relocate from Harvest Christian Fellowship to a remodeled building at the corner of South Jefferson Street and Catoctin Avenue sharing a lot with Xhale nightclub. Pastor Todd Westphal states the move follows a year and a half of community outreach and prayer. The 72-family church will add a 200-seat sanctuary, offices, nursery and youth rooms, with completion anticipated in 4 to 8 weeks by Morgan Keller Inc. The church was founded 16 years ago by Keith Intender, now a missionary in Israel.

War veteran recalls Battle of the Bulge ordeal

Private Dalyai of the US Army 394th Infantry Division recalls growing up in War West Virginia with a coal-mining family before enlisting on December 5 1942. He describes the Ardennes campaign in freezing conditions on December 14 1944 when German shells shattered his eardrums and he faced capture by the enemy before continuing his wartime journey.

Shelter plans shift to Goodwill building for cold weather site
