Gas franchises expanded near Mount Airy by two utilities
Frederick County officials approved non exclusive gas service rights for Baltimore Gas and Electric and Washington Gas Light in areas southwest of Mount Airy. Debate focused on service boundaries along Md 80 and Fingerboard Road with calls for competition to benefit consumers. Also lifted a 1988 limit on Libertytown developer Lindblad to cap at 15 lots yearly, with planning staff noting market limits of 25 to 30 units annually.
