Downzoning Compromise Sparks Owner Concerns in Frederick County
A property rights group opposes the planning commission plan to keep commercial zoning along 1.8 miles of U.S. 15 while changing the comprehensive plan to rural commercial. They warn the shift would devalue parcels covering over 3,060 acres near Frederick and fear later downzoning. The plan moves to county commissioners after approval.

Frederick County Bridges Program Faces Federal Funds Drop
Frederick County public works officials say the bridge rehabilitation program has been so successful it risks losing federal funds for future repairs. The county plans to add four bridge projects to the master schedule to maximize dollars, estimating a $7.8 million federal balance by September 2003 and $2.8 million more in federal spending, while TEA-21 distributions may pull remaining $2.2 million back to the state. The effort includes coordination with municipalities and the City of Frederick to include additional bridges.
