He underwent surgery for about 125 lacerations from the attack. He was en route to buy soft drinks for his sick brother when the dogs struck. His mother fought the dogs off with a broom after his delayed return.

Eleven Miners Rescued From Flooded German Mine
Eleven men were brought to the surface of a flooded iron mine in Broistedt Germany two weeks after being entombed. A drilling rig broke through to gallery 183 feet below the surface and one by one the miners were rescued in a capsule amid cheering crowds and television coverage. The oldest, Fritz Baer, 53, was the second to emerge as Red Cross teams treated the survivors at a mobile clinic before hospital transport.
