Property Taxes Rise Despite State Directives
City property assessments fell short of the 50 to 60 percent target, with real estate sales pricing higher than assessed values. County hearings heard from Grace Martz and John Engelbrecht who urged reductions, citing expert comparisons and recent increases. Engelbrecht showed his 1935 home cost and urged a fairer valuation, noting similar nearby homes with lower assessments.
