Voters flocked to the polls this morning for one of the longest ballots in history with 10 contests and many candidates. Turnout surged in Court House Precincts 5 and 5-A and other downtown areas, aided by get out the vote drives and a Sunday holiday.
Associated Press reports 1 087 candidates seek office in 36 Senate 432 House and 32 Governor seats across 33 states electing 46 Senators and 47 states choosing House members with Maine noting recent re elections for Governor and House seats.
Headed by the carrier Boxer and two heavy cruisers, the first Pacific Fleet units to leave the Korean theater are set to arrive in San Diego and two other California ports within ten days. The rough campaign in Pennsylvania ends as voters choose a governor, U S Senator, and 33 congressmen.
The Maryland State Roads Commission discusses two arterial highway types under construction with distinct access rules. A Brunswick woman, Emily R. Orrison, 55, was slightly injured in a collision on West South Street about ten this morning. Her car and a truck suffered light damage. no charges were filed. Dr William W. Orrison, 29, and Paul Eugene Stockman, 31, were involved. Orrison was a passenger in the Brunswick car.

Leiby a 26 year old former Frederick barber convicted of first degree murder of Leonard Applebaum a Baltimore salesman Leiby s death sentence was set to be carried out by electric chair and was stayed pending the appeal His commutation to life was not confirmed by Florida authorities He is held on charges of breaking and entering grand larceny and receiving stolen goods in Harford He previously fled here after posting bail and later went to Florida where he became involved in the Applebaum murder The case drew wide attention via a detective story magazine and officials warned of changes in Leibys status ahead of any release plans.
A blast at the Explosives and Chemical Products ltd factory on Bramble Island near Harwich killed at least three workers and injured 25, with one missing. The explosion occurred in the mixing room, breaking windows in Clacton ten miles away. Villagers described it as sounding like a great bomb.

Seventeen year old student nurse Ann Tabor returned to Beckley West Virginia after eight days missing she told authorities her former high school social science teacher Lewis G Daniel 43 a divorced father of two abducted her and forced marriage. Daniel surrendered and was jailed in Raleigh County while state police Captain R G Coen said he would be charged with abduction.
