Researcher stalks genes in schizophrenia study
At the Medical College of Virginia Dr Scott Diehl with a $1.8 million grant from the National Institute of Mental Health leads a five year program to identify genetic factors in schizophrenia. He will analyze blood samples from families in western Ireland and study how dozens of thousands of genes may cluster with the disorder. The project aims to map inheritance patterns and locate eye color linked genes that hint at nearby schizophrenia genes, a task complicated by the large number of human genes and the lack of clear signposts.
