Pathfinder mission ends its Mars contact hope in Pasadena
Scientists and engineers bid farewell as Mars Pathfinder goes silent after landing July 4 and delivering early results. Pathfinders team plans biweekly contact attempts through year end, while rover Sojourner may remain circling or stuck. Project leaders call the mission a success, noting over 16 000 photos and findings of water and heat, with data to be analyzed and released online.
