Narcissi Herald Spring Color and Hybridization Trends
The narcissus or daffodil lights spring with gold along roads and in gardens. Hybridizers at the International Flower Bulb Center in Hillegem note new colors, especially pinks, lilac, and upcoming light red varieties, though red and purple narcisstales may take six years. Fragrance remains a selective focus amid ongoing breeding for color, sturdiness, and disease resistance.

Fireproofing a home with fire-scaping landscape design
Fire-scaping minimizes fire risk for homes in rural, vegetated areas. Use flat sites when possible, place driveways downhill, clear two foot vegetation-free zones, choose fire resistant hardwoods, and limit conifers near structures. Create safety zones with slow burning foundation plantings and maintain 20 feet between evergreens, trees, and homes. Remove limbs within 15 to 20 feet of roofs and chimneys, remove vines, and limit mulch use to reduce fire spread.
