Voters Reject Charter Proposal in Frederick County
In Tuesday’s general election Frederick County voters rejected the charter proposal by 6 497 to 5 308 and backed only two of 12 ballot questions. Question 12 would have created a five member charter board. Question 9 passed locally and statewide, allowing voluntary prayers in public schools. The lieutenant governor amendment also passed statewide. Local votes supported some amendments while rejecting others, including questions 2 3 4 5 and 6. Question 6's fate was mixed as statewide results differed.

74 Per Cent Of County Voters Cast Ballots Beall Upends Tydings
Frederick County voters produced a 74 percent turnout supporting Republican J. Glenn Beall Jr. for the U.S. Senate, defeating incumbent Democrat Joseph Tydings by more than two to one. Goodloe Byron led in the 6th district for Congress, besting George Hughes, with absentee ballots likely deciding at least one local race. County totals show Byron 13,283 to Hughes 7,131 and Audrey Carroll 417 in the district race.
