UAW Approves Agreement To End Ford Strike
Detroit May 29 The CIO United Auto Workers voted overwhelming approval to end the 24 day Ford strike at Rouge local 600 and Lincoln Division 900. Walter Reuther said the agreement gives gains in ground rules though it does not resolve all issues. Arbitration remains central to the dispute with three subcommittees to pick two arbitrators, then a third if needed, to decide a single arbitrator. Talks to begin as soon as possible with a July contract expiry looming and production time lost to be addressed by the arbitration panel.
