County tax rate cut debated amid revenue concerns
County officials approved a lower tax rate for fiscal 1996 but warned a fiscal 1986 budget may tighten programs. With an 8 percent rise in assessed home value, the new $2.22 rate increases state and local taxes by $1.64 per $1,000, vs $1.97 under the old rate. Commissioners voiced reservations about relying on revenue sharing cuts, noting only 44 percent of projected real estate tax revenues fund the 1986 budget, while capital projects and Board of Education funding face shifts.
