In Pottsville Pennsylvania on May 29 the supreme court affirmed a $3500 award to Joseph Kierkosky a small boy who was injured by a mule kick. The Kaska William Supply Company faced liability though Kierkosky was not employed by them. Judge Koch held the firm must keep boys away from its mules. Kierkosky suffered permanent injuries including knocked out teeth and a fractured jaw.

London May 29 British activity across the northern front from Artois to the Belgian frontier keeps German forces under pressure with heavy artillery, mining, and renewed attacks near Meuse positions. French have recaptured Cumieres eastern part and advanced southwest of Dead Man Hill, while fighting continues around Vimy ridge and Hill 304. A German air raid on Papenhold and Russian front actions near Dalen island were also noted.
Official figures show a 49 percent rise in English food prices since the war, eroding purchasing power of the pound to about $2.50.
