Md Dept of Agriculture official wins national appreciation award
Dr Gordon W Vacura of the Maryland Department of Agriculture received a Department of Defense Certificate of Appreciation for supporting the West Virginia Air National Guard at Martinsburg on May 8. Presented by the 167th Tactical Airlift Group, the honor recognized supportive employers of Guardsmen and Reservists. The Martinsburg unit operates C130B aircraft on Tactical Airlift missions for Air Force requirements with nine aircraft in inventory.

Imaging Associates of Western Maryland will host a Saturday seminar for clinicians in western Maryland at the Sheraton Inn Frederick. Dr. Marc Raphaelson will lead the morning session on magnetic resonance imaging, outlining current brain and spinal cord applications and broader body imaging uses. Exhibitors will show medical office computerization and financial management tools while medical books and equipment are offered at discounts. Montgomery County seniors from Whitman Churchill Rockville Wootton and other schools swept National Merit and National West Scholarships. Montgomery officers honored for meritorious service in awards
Montgomery County police Tracy Sparshott and Leland Baughman were recognized at the Knights of Columbus awards ceremony. Sparshott received the Columbian Medal of Merit and a $100 bond for undercover work that helped seize a major drug ring. Baughman earned the Meritorious Service Award and a $50 bond for arrests of 12 suspects and recovery of $6,000 in stolen property. Awards were presented by County Executive Charles W. Gilchrist and Council president William E. Hanna Jr.
