Unknown gunmen attacked a station wagon on a busy highway south of Cairo injuring two American diplomats inside and then fled, U S Embassy officials said.
A busy Frederick Arts Festival weekend drew crowds to Court Square for a day of painting, pasta jewelry making, face painting, and lively demonstrations from Norma Sacoman and volunteers as thunder threatened but did not arrive. Children played central roles while vendors offered food and crafts in a festive scene.
The spring festival at Rose Hill Manor Park drew hundreds as the 10th annual Farm Museum event spotlighted horses over tractors. Visitors enjoyed jousting, antique tractor pulls, and demonstrations from blacksmithing to sheepshearing while Robert Shank demonstrated tail braiding learned in 4 H and taught by Joe Vial from the University of Maryland.
Maryland officials dedicated the eastern section of the Eisenhower Memorial Highway from San Francisco to Frederick as part of a five site ceremony. Lt. Gov. Steinberg led remarks praising Eisenhower and the Interstate System while also dedicating the 1-270 Monocacy River Overlook named for Congressman Goodloe Byron. The event highlighted the nation’s highway legacy during a state leadership tour through western Maryland.
Police say five arrests busted a cocaine network running between Frederick and Miami Beach. A former Middletown man labeled a kingpin, David R Wolfe, 42, was jailed on three conspiracy counts after raid at 541 Logan St Frederick. Wolfe is tied to cash, records, and a $16,000 cocaine buy, with ties to Florida transit and a $8,000 cash seizure.
