Tallest Job Applicants Receive Higher Salaries
Pittsburgh AP reports University of Pittsburgh personnel director Leland Deck notes height affects starting pay. Surveys show men over 6 feet earn about 10 percent more on first jobs, with 24 percent higher starting pay for 6+ foot graduates in 1967 and 1970, while a tall graduate may have a lower GPA but higher salary. Deck argues height bias stems from hiring ease and recognition by employers, not a simple intelligence measure.
