Thurmont Planning Commission votes to forward extensive zoning updates to the town commissioners. Changes include day care center requirements, cluster development acreage limits, sign regulations, and fast food lot and open space rules. New provisions set 1.5 acre minimums for fast food sites and reduced sign heights.
Frederick County planners presented updated comprehensive land use and rezoning plans for the New Market region at New Market Middle School. The six-area region includes New Market Mount Airy Lake Singanore Monrovia Wyamsville and Penn Shop Road. James Shaw and staff answered questions as residents studied maps showing changes through 2010 and beyond.
Walkersville planners approved a rezoning for Aero Oil Co. The Frederick firm sought to reclassify a 13,664 square foot parcel at 1 E Frederick St from highway service to B-2 business district. Commission member Martin Lapera said the gas tanks were removed and the site now operates as automotive repair, which conflicts with current zoning.
A public hearing at Winchester Hall reviewed plans for a core service agency to monitor state funded mental health services with three viewpoints. Frederick County may not be considered until 1993 with no new programs in 1992 due to state shortfalls. The Alliance for the Mentally Ill favors a private nonprofit core tied to the county, while Dr. Scheer proposes a county health department agency to ensure state voice and local support.
