The Frederick County ASCS will register beef producers from June 6 to 17 to vote in a July beef research and information order referendum. Registration is open to all who produced beef in 1976, with one vote per production entity.
Dr. Raymond D. Ediger is appointed by the Maryland Department of Agriculture as field veterinarian for Frederick and Washington Counties replacing Dr. Donald Cheatham who resigned to take a job out of state. A Frederick County resident since 1981 Ediger will oversee dairy and beef health programs and deepen laboratory and pathology work. He is a 1951 Washington State University veterinary graduate and has prior service with the U.S. Army Veterinary Corps at Fort Detrick. He is married to Louise Stull with one child Lynelle and lives on a 16 acre Frederick area farm.
Maryland Secretary of Agriculture Young D Hance asks all cattle owners to register to vote in the national beef referendum set for July 5 to 15. Registration runs June 6 to June 17 at county ASCS offices. Any principal in cattle may vote including 4 H and FFA members. absentee ballots available. If passed a three tenths of one percent assessment funds will support Beef Research and Information Plan with packers deducting the amount from cattle sale prices.
