Fire that destroyed warehouse ruled arson
A storage building next to the Frederick Fair grounds was destroyed Monday afternoon, ruled arson by investigators. No insured value was listed as the city owned the building. A witness saw two youths flee the scene. Firefighters contained the blaze in about 40 minutes after water was directed from a deck gun.

McBride given life term for murder of drug dealer
Christopher Andre McBride was sentenced to life in prison by Frederick County Circuit Court Judge Herbert L. Rollins after the defense fought for parole eligibility. McBride, 25, received no parole denial and is eligible for parole in 17 years for the November 17 1993 murder of Carl Mantack on Frederick citys South Street. Mantack was stabbed 42 times and throat slit during a running chase, with McBride claiming self defense. Deputy State's Attorney Julie Stevenson said the killing was deliberate.

Woman Dies After Head-On Crash on Md 26 Bridge
Frederick woman Belinda Jean Smith, 27, died from injuries after a head-on collision on the Monocacy River bridge on Md 26 Monday evening. A truck driver swerved to avoid a bicyclist, crossed the center line, and struck her Jeep Cherokee. Smith was extricated after about 30 minutes and flown to R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, where she died around 1 am Wednesday. The other driver, Anthony W Weddle, 20, of Sharpsburg, was treated at Frederick Memorial Hospital and released. Traffic was rerouted at Trading Lane for over an hour after the 6 pm crash.
