East German teachers tour Frederick for US education insights
Kerstin Wehner, 30, and 29 colleagues from eastern Germany toured Frederick County to study American schools and culture. They viewed six public schools and three private ones, met open classrooms, and noted shifts from GDR rigidity to Western liberalization amid reunification, with hopes to inspire change at home.

Baltimore drug testing lab charged in FDA investigation

The case centers on Bolar Pharmaceutical substituting Dyazide for its own Triamterene product to support FDA approval, generating 140 million in three years. Frederick officials set lease conditions for arts center easement
The Frederick city council agreed to a deed of easement granting the Maryland Historical Trust perpetual authority to regulate changes to the Delaplaine Visual Arts Center building at 30.8 Carroll Street. The plan ties a $200,000 grant to the easement, with $100,000 overrun covered by the center’s Phase 1 renovations. The arrangement raises concerns over city maintenance costs if the center vacates, while a proposal to transfer property outright to the arts foundation was rejected to preserve the grant and city taxpayers’ risk protections. The council also scheduled a budget session and began reviewing city rules on yard and private sales.
