Salisbury May 22 4 Installation of Harry F Volmer of Hagerstown as president and three resolutions adopted at the weekend State Junior Chamber convention. Hoover recommendations for reorganizing government national daylight saving time and a super state commission to reduce overlapping authority. Awards went to Hagerstown Salisbury Baltimore Cumberland and others. Convention set to be in Frederick in 1950. Also Rotary Jaycee track meet winners listed with 880 yard run and hurdle events.

Labor leaders seek bipartisan labor bill compromise

Senator Aiken says key officials from two large labor organizations asked him to aid a bipartisan compromise on the Taft-Hartley repeal measure. He has discussed with Democrats who he says are blocked by the White House’s uncompromising stance. Aiken notes unnamed labor leaders spoke with authority. Mrs. Cora Howard has been visiting Newton, Pa., with Mr. and Mrs. Adam Benntham.

Honors awards set at University of Maryland assembly

The University of Maryland will hold its annual honors and awards assembly in College Park on Tuesday evening. Donald R. Jackson of Gaithersburg will receive the top award for highest marks. Gen Clifton B. Cates, commandant of the U.S. Marine Corps, will be principal speaker. George C. Fry of Laytonsville earns the Alpha Zeta medal for top scholastic average. The Sigma Chi cup goes to the freshman class for highest scholastic achievement. Glassware made in 1609 at the Damies­town factory was the first American export article.
