Col Ober to Resign Jarman His Successor
Annapolis May 22. Col Beverly Ober will resign June 1 to become Baltimore City Police Commissioner replacing Hamilton R. Atkinson who ends a six year term May 31. Col Carey Jarman of Chestertown named as State Police Superintendent. Governor Lane announced the shift in the two top police posts. Atkinson led Baltimore police from ranks to commissioner in the city. Ober to Baltimore commissioner earns 12500 a year for six years. Jarman, a WWII and WWI veteran, for three years directed the VA Medical Administration Service for the Richmond office serving four states and DC. The governor said both men are equipped by ability training and experience for these offices.

After months of work the Taneytown dial telephone system will go into service at 12:30 p.m. May 25, announced by William B. Hopkins, local manager for the C. and P. Telephone Company of Baltimore City. The project includes a new office, building, outside cable and wire, dial equipment, and new instruments, costing more than $92,000.
