Birth of Carroll County and rise of Kump Station
The 1637 creation of Carroll County carved from Baltimore and Frederick counties followed by early history of Piney Creek and Pine Creek, renamed Kump Station as the Galts built stores, lime kilns, and churches. The town's growth paused after a 1915 fire at Kump's store, rails shifted, and today only three road signs mark Kump Station while Galts are largely forgotten.
