Signals may replace two watchman crossings in Frederick
Baltimore and Ohio Railroad officials led by George C. Doering discussed substituting automatic flashing light protection for watchmen at two grade crossings in Frederick county Route 14 Lime Kiln and Adamstown Jefferson street. County commissioners planned to consult the State Roads Commission before a final decision. 1888 laws required watchmen at Lime Kiln and Adams town. 1949 act repealed that need. Officials cite Interstate Commerce Commission records and traffic counts showing light signals reliable with light traffic at both sites. A Lime Kiln crossing is a 20 foot wide blacktop with double tracks and standard signs. Adamstown crossing is narrow with standard and special signs when watchman off duty. Pedestrian and vehicle counts indicate light use at both locations.

A presidential committee predicted equality of treatment and opportunity for all persons in the armed forces within a reasonably near future. Created by President Truman on July 26, 1948, the group reviewed service rules and endorsed changes to carry out the executive order declaring equal treatment regardless of race color religion or national origin. The report states its recommendations have been approved by Truman, Secretary of Defense Johnson, and the service secretaries and are now in effect. The panel found inequality had reduced efficiency and expects improved military effectiveness as programs are carried out.

Taft Opposes Plan To Junk Reorganization Efforts
Washington May 22 Senator Taft Republican Ohio said he will oppose efforts to junk more of President Truman's government reorganization plans. Taft chairs the Senate Republican Policy committee and led the fight against one of five plans killed this month. Resolutions sought to block five more plans for Senate action today or tomorrow led by Edwin C Johnson in Cole to veto the Federal Trade Commission reorganization. Democratic leader Lucas of Hindss said overtime work may be needed to meet tomorrow's midnight deadline in the 21 plans sent to Congress two months ago. Presidential reorganization plans become effective 60 days after submission, pending action by the Senate or House.

Renn Delivers First Sermon After Seminary Graduation
William A. Renn, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alvey V. Renn of 200 East Eighth Street, was among 29 Gettysburg Theological Seminary graduates receiving the bachelor of divinity degree last Friday. On Sunday he preached his first sermon at the Evangelical Reformed Church in Frederick and will be ordained May 24 at Gettysburg College Chapel.
