The Maryland Women’s Committee of Charleston Exposition led by I. Victor Baughman plans a large display in the Southern Canton. Treasurer Mrs. Jacob Tome has raised over half of the $500 needed, with state funds likely, and space in the Woman’s Building will showcase nurse training, household science, nourishing foods, and educational exhibits from Johns Hopkins, Bryn Mawr, Calvert, and the Tome Institute. Historic relics will adorn Colonial House, and Maryland women will highlight art and literature. The showcases draw on earlier laurels from Chicago 1876 and Atlanta Exposition to prove women’s capabilities.

Slaughter of Carp at Potomac Pool Near Fort Frederick
A party of sixty or more men and boys slaughtered over fifty German carp in the Potomac pool near Old Fort Frederick last week. Carp weighed three to twenty pounds, totaling about a quarter ton. William Hull shot the largest carp at over twenty pounds. Spring runs bring carp into shallow water where they wallow in the sand. War on carp recurs despite abundant numbers as they harm bass and other food fish. Some claim carp is a good food fish, though others deem its meat coarse and strong.
