Mount St. Marys honors first African American female doctor at 188th graduation
Dr Blanche Bourne-Tyree addressed Mount St. Marys College graduates urging belief in opportunities despite prejudice. She noted her trailblazing path as Frederick Countys first African American woman doctor. More than 4,000 attended as 286 undergrads and 120 advanced degrees were conferred led by President George R Houston Jr. Retired pediatrician and educator Bourne-Tyree received an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters.

Iraq accepts oil for food deal aid for its people
Iraq's U.N. ambassador Nazar Hamdoon said Baghdad would accept the United Nations plan allowing Saddam Hussein to sell oil to fund food and medicine. The agreement could let Iraq export $1 billion of oil every 90 days, easing sanctions imposed after invading Kuwait in 1990. Oil prices moved on the announcement with NYMEX futures unevenly trading.
