Strike Criticised by International Miners Chief
London May 19 Frank Hodges secretary of the International Miners Federation since 1925 criticised the general strike as a disaster driven by blind passion to test a machine that fails against human nature and economic forces. He said the Trades Union Congress efforts were a toy compared with economic facts and social forces and that the miners faces a fruitless tragic sacrifice against inexorable costs.

Curious facts and heredity tease a dancer in a frothy tale
A witty exchange unfolds on the dance floor as a man bores a partner with "curious facts" about heredity. He claims his brother, born on the same day but three years older, is his exact opposite, while the woman feigns interest. The piece hints at early brain study noted in an ancient Egyptian medical document circa 1700 BC.
