62 Coal Miners Die In Japanese Mine Blast

A methane gas explosion at Mitsubishi Mining Co. Minami Oh Yubari mine near Yubari, Hokkaido, killed 62 miners and injured 22 as rescue teams recovered bodies and authorities searched company offices for safety records. Police questioned officials and seized 80 documents while investigations continued into potential involuntary manslaughter charges.

Man found not guilty of disorderly conduct

A Frederick man was found innocent in Frederick County District Court on Friday after a civilian testimony was not presented. Michael R. Seals, 29, faced a disorderly conduct charge from an incident on North Market Street last April 1. The state read its facts into the record and noted a private-sector witness would have been required for conviction. Judge Mary Ann Stepler acquitted him.
