Patient Awakens After Artificial Heart Surgery in Houston
Walter L. McCans, 61, Woodinville Washington, became the second patient in three weeks to receive a partial artificial heart at Methodist Hospital in Houston. He underwent valve insertion and a heart assist pump designed to aid left ventricle function. The operation lasted about five hours and McCans woke later that day, breathing on his own.

Chest X rays Begin In Area May 23

Shade Gap Kidnap Suspect Shot Dead After Siege
A 44 year old kidnap killer William Hollenbaugh was killed by police near Shade Gap Pa as he sought to escape with 17 year old Peggy Ann Bradnick. Deputy Sharp was wounded and the girl escaped unharmed after a lengthy manhunt in the Tuscarora mountains. Larry Rubeck 15 fired the shot that struck the kidnapper. Peggy Ann received medical care and was reported exhausted but physically unmolested.
