Baltimore man jailed for luring minor to hotel and drinking
A 37 year old Baltimore sheet metal worker was sentenced in Juvenile Court to up to two years in the House of Correction and a $500 fine for contributing to the delinquency of a minor. He transported a 13 year old boy to Frederick and Baltimore where they drank beer and wine and shared a hotel room overnight. The judge criticized the defendant for his actions and warned of further punishment if the fine is not paid. The boy’s mother reported him missing and witnesses described drinking and attempts at sexual advances. The defendant plans to appeal.

Minister Huebener Dies At Thurmont
Retired Graceham Moravian pastor Rev. Robert Huebener of Thurmont died at his home around noon after a heart condition. The 80 year old minister had retired in 1936 but often filled pulpit duties and served nearby congregations. Burial is planned in Thurmont United Brethren cemetery with services Monday at his home.

Rains Bring Relief After Dry Spell Across Frederick
Rain reached Frederick city and county last night ending a long dry period though amounts were light. A 1950 Ford sedan collided on U S 40 near Braddock mountain with .24 inch recorded. two-car crash on US 40 caused minor damage and injuries to a trio from Hagerstown. Several other mishaps occurred as rain cooled areas with Frost warnings easing and cool, cloudy weekend ahead.

Godfrey Makes Two Stops At Airport
Arthur Godfrey a noted radio and TV entertainer visited Frederick on two days this week landing at the municipal airport to refuel his two place helicopter. Airport official Tommy Wolfe said Godfrey over paid the refueling charge by one dollar each time and departed saying he would buy a coke if he returned on a hot day. Godfrey resides in Leesburg Va.

A sequence of explosions and fire at the Kent Oil Co bulk storage plant in Galena Maryland killed two firefighters and injured at least eight others. The two dead are Richard Loller 38 of Chesapeake City and Harry Brice 25 of Betterton. A tank was hurled 150 yards as flames raged near U S 213 three miles from the Delaware line.

Robbery At Local Gas Station Seizes Large Safe
Robbers pried open the office door at the American Oil Company service station owned by Charles F. McKenzie on West Patrick Street and carried off a two by two foot safe weighing 250 to 300 pounds. The safe reportedly contained 160 to 165 dollars plus papers and a stopped check. Police found a damaged safe along a Cedar Grove road later that day. it remained unclear if it was the station’s safe.

Drunken driving charge after wrong way crash on West South street
James L. Gocenour of Braddock Heights, 44, was jailed on a $1000 bond after a collision on West South street. Police say he drove west in a eastbound north lane, hitting Mary Norris Lynch of Baltimore who tried to avoid the crash. Estimated damage was $150 to Gocenour’s sedan and $50 to Lynch’s car.
