Newly Hatched Fry Undamaged By Rains In Maryland Streams
Black bass in Frederick county streams completed spawning and suffer no ill effects from weekend rains, says Albert M Powell State hatchery superintendent. Unseasonably cool weather did not stop hatching and indicates a successful period after two years. Rain muddied last year’s season, but this weekend’s rains did not injure fry. Powell reports 1200 to 1500 bass per nest in county streams and about 1000 at the hatchery. One nest produced over 8,000 fingerlings. Fry will be kept at the hatchery until two to three inches, then stocked in state streams.
