Maryland seeks long term fix for thrift crisis
Maryland state officials push a broad legislative package to stabilize 102 privately insured thrifts after a 1000 dollar per account per 30 days withdrawal limit. Gov. Hughes seeks powers to regulate S&Ls, mandate federal insurance for many deposits, and create a state thrift insurance fund while three Baltimore S&Ls seek relief from the limit for payroll and business accounts.
