Rain a godsend for local farmers after weekend storm
Frederick County residents hailed Sunday's thunderstorm as a godsend with about 1.3 inches of rain over the county and 0.67 inches in Frederick City. National Weather Service meteorologist Melody Hall timed the rain starting around 7:30 a.m. and lasting several hours, noting May totals remain below normal. Farm Bureau President Jess Burall called the soaking welcome and expressed hope for weekly to ten day rain cycles to sustain crops. The storm also knocked out cable service for 400 to 500 Frederick Cablevision customers across multiple areas, restoring service later in the day.

Churches locate where people are with nontraditional venues
Frederick pastors favor offbeat sites like Eastgate Shopping Center to bring worship to 95 adults and many children. They say minimal building costs let them invest in people, plant new congregations, and serve others from places such as a strip between a liquor store and a night club.
