The city installs a Gamewell Codewell fire locating system atop city hall connected to headquarters. It will test Friday and aims to direct volunteer firemen to specific districts, reducing response time, while maintaining the existing alarm method.
In Howard County a woman is hospitalized after taking poison powder for a headache. A state’s attorney ordered a crime inquiry as police report details of Mrs. MacKinne, the third death in a family linked to prior deaths in 1917 and 1918.
The Nurses Alumnae Association of Frederick City Hospital held its annual banquet at the Hotel Frederick. Daisy Carter served as toast mistress and urged cooperation for wider service. Seventy one graduates prompted growth in the hospital from ten beds to 125 and 3 student nurses, with 60 to 200 patients treated yearly. The First Regiment Band, Frederick, won the April attendance banner with 100 percent temperance. The hospital board met to report April activity: patients treated 279, admitted 169, discharged 165, remaining 44.
A Christian workers conference at Braddock Heights runs July 27 through August 3 under Frederick County Association. Notable speakers include A T Robertson J B Baker Barnett S James and the Charles English Family with daily lectures and musical programs in a packed two week schedule.
The annual Pipe of Peace picnic brings together Hood College seniors and juniors to bury enmities. Event starts at 5 p.m. along the Monocacy River with hay trucks for transport. Rockville Ma May 13 The general county tax rate for the year beginning July 1 will remain at 1.30 on each 108 of real and personal property The State tax rate for the approaching year will be 25 cents on each 100 or 0.74 of a cent less The county will sign the annual levy June 3 and expects property to rise about 1.5 million since last year The commissioners approved several accounts preliminarily and prepared for the levy signing
