Three Children Die In Tenement Fire At Monroe Street
An incendiary fire in a Monroe Street tenement killed three children and injured two women, one of whom, Mrs Louisa Pacio, suffered likely fatal injuries after leaping from a window. Giuseppe Ottuse and family occupants were affected as fire spread through the building saturated with kerosene. Firemen rescued Ottuse, while others perished or were injured in the blaze. The incident occurred as tenants attempted escape and rope was used to lower a body from a window.
