A well dressed woman, about thirty five, was found on a clay bank near the Schuylkill River with a bottle of carbolic acid nearby. Footprints of a man were found leading to the pond, suggesting possible abduction or foul play. Police suspect the woman may have been brought to the site by a male companion.

Norristown May 11 Miss Hartranft daughter of former Governor John F Hartranft showed grit as she fired at a burglar trying to pry open a library window. She pursued him shooting through a window, claiming a bullet struck him as he leaped away in fright.
Washington reports reveal Democratic leaders press Mitchell to accept the Illinois governorship bid. Buttons bearing his image circulated as Mitchell, unaware in Washington, is said to resist any nomination. Roger Sullivan asserts he will nominate him with or without consent.
In Pittsburg on May 11 a thief attempted to rob Mrs. Annié Rosenbahl’s store on Penn Avenue. A desperate fight ensued before she reached the telephone to summon police. The thief, Joseph Thomas, overpowered her as she screamed for help. officers arrived in time to capture him as he left with money and valuables while she lay unconscious. The incident ends with the thief taken into custody and Mrs. Rosenbahl beaten.
