NEA leader defends program amid years of controversy
NEA chairman John Frohnmayer, amid calls to resign, defends agency after clashes over censorship and obscenity. He notes a budget increase and a 174 million dollar appropriation while countering charges of funding obscene works including the film Poison. He invites critics to screenings and remains resolved to stay at the helm.
