Middletown Officials Refuse 56-Cent Tax Rate Cut
Middletown town commissioners on Monday refused to cut the tax rate from 58 cents per $100 to 56 cents per $100, arguing the change would be counterproductive and reduce revenue. Burgess William Thompson said lowering the rate would not be recommended even if it meant losing about $16,000 in revenue. The meeting also approved the FY 2000 budget, and a traffic flow change on North Jefferson Street from southbound to northbound will take effect July 1 to improve sight distance.
