Apollo program strides toward moon by end of decade
Five years after the U S commitment, officials from Cape Kennedy to California express strong confidence that a manned lunar landing could occur within the decade. The Apollo program shows broad progress with 75 000 engineers on the effort and over 300 000 workers across 20 000 firms. NASA officials caution about possible minor delays but say major technical barriers are absent and that Saturn 5 and other components are advancing toward test launches in 1968 and 1969.

Richards Yankee GM On His Own Terms
Paul Richards, former Orioles manager, said he would accept the New York Yankees GM job only on his terms. He stated he would not take a role focused solely on waivers and desk work. Richards, who also led the Astros and White Sox, was speaking in Pittsfield during a Phillies scouting trip. Ralph Houk had vacated the Yankees post, with Johnny Keane fired prior.
