Frederick resident Robert T. Carpenter 35, chief of the isotopic power system branch in the Atomic Energy Commission space nuclear systems division, received a special citation and certificate from AEC general manager Robert E Hollingsworth. Awarded by the William Jump Foundation, Carpenter was the AEC nominee and is noted for his role in developing the first nuclear power generator SNAP-3 launched in 1961. Two Frederick men jailed for armed robberies
John G Hardy 25 of Monrovia and James M Selby 19 of Tamsville were each sentenced by Chief Judge Patrick M Schnauffer to five years in the Maryland Correctional Institution at Hagerstown for armed robberies on December 8. Hardy received five years for the liquor store holdup and three years for the restaurant robbery to run concurrently.
