Look Eastward or Risk Global Trade Shift
Commentary by Anthony Muarrytan questions turning away from Atlantic heritage as John McLaughlin urges Reagan to favor Asia. He proposes a Pacific basin common market with nations like Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore and others to cut the US trade deficit, spur growth, and reduce reliance on Europe and the Americas, noting current trade is largely one way toward Japan.

Atlantic Heartland Ends The Pacific Orientation Debate
The piece argues against shifting US focus from the Atlantic world to the Pacific Basin. It warns that most Pacific nations are totalitarian or culturally remote, while Western Europe shares a common heritage with the United States. It stresses that Australia and New Zealand are exceptions and urges caution before reorienting foreign policy toward the Pacific.

CIA smear of Greek journalist tied to 1960s Athens regime
The piece traces Elias Demetracopoulos's long fight against CIA disinformation linked to the 1967 Greek junta and the Nixon administration. It notes alleged CIA funding through KYP, testimony before House committees, a Times profile with leaked claims, and eventual CIA admissions that the Binder allegations were false, with corrections highlighting no evidence Demetracopoulos worked for foreign intelligence.

Police rush through Frederick with false Dillinger alert
A dawn bustle in Frederick followed reports that outlaw John Dillinger was being moved through the city by state police after an auto with two prisoners and three officers arrived. It proved false, as the fugitives were bank robbers, and the day also brought a dust storm, a hazy sky over the Catoctins, and a lightning strike that knocked two farmhands unconscious on Jesus King’s farm near Frederick.
